Staff award honours long-time employee.

When you are walking through the halls at RMHC Toronto, it’s common to see Polo, Maintenance Technician, cracking a joke to make people laugh. He is well-known for having a great sense of humour and a positive attitude.

Polo was recently recognized for his exemplary qualities by being awarded with the Anita Price Award of Excellence.

This award is presented annually to a RMHC Toronto employee who demonstrates compassion, teamwork, and resiliency in supporting our mission of keeping families close. This year, Polo was nominated as the winner by his peers.

Anita Price, the inaugural recipient of the award, retired from RMHC Toronto two years ago after three decades of service as an employee, and prior to that as a Board Director and volunteer.

Polo also has an impressive legacy at RMHC Toronto. He became an employee in January 1994. He worked in maintenance at our first House on Dundas Street and our second House on Gerrard Street before coming to our current location on McCaul Street.

He says some of his favourite memories from his career at RMHC Toronto are from working at the first House on Dundas Street.

“There was no cable television, so all the families and children would sit together and socialize. It was amazing to see,” says Polo.

When Polo thinks about his day-to-day work at RMHC Toronto, he says it’s still very rewarding, even after all these years.

“I like what I do – I enjoy taking care of the House and fixing things when I need to. But I also love meeting the families who need us. It’s a good feeling when you talk to a parent on the elevator and I make them laugh.”

Congratulations, Polo!
