As Charlie faces her next open-heart surgery, her family is staying by her side at RMHC Toronto.

Charlie was born with no left ventricle in her heart.

Parents David and Diane never expected she would need three open heart surgeries before her first birthday.

The family was rushed to Toronto from their home in Thunder Bay, Ont. for Charlie’s first open heart surgery at just ten days old.

Thanks to donors like you, David and Diane can stay close to Charlie at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto.

During those first emotional days in Toronto, the family relied on the RMHC Toronto Family Room at SickKids.

“The Family Room was a godsend. Having a quiet place to sleep, eat, and relax just steps away from Charlie meant the world to us,” says Diane.

After a few days, a room became available at the House. The family is now staying together while Charlie recovers and prepares for her second surgery.

Renew your support today to keep Charlie’s family together. You make it possible for Charlie’s parents to be by her side every step of the way.

As they face Charlie’s diagnosis and an uncertain future, meeting other families at the House has been valuable for David and Diane. Being separated from their family, friends, and close community in Thunder Bay has been challenging.

“It’s helpful to hear stories from people in a similar situation as us. It doesn’t make us feel so alone. There is a strong sense of community at the House.”

With seven months at RMHC Toronto already and many more to come, your support keeps Charlie smiling and cuddling with her mom and dad.

“I know firsthand how donors like you make a difference. You make RMHC Toronto a safe and supportive place. Every little bit helps to make this House a home.”
