Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. RMHC Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world. 

We are looking for a Marketing & Communications Specialist to join our team in Toronto.  

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Specialist will work closely with the organization to support and develop dynamic content for web, digital campaigns, print collateral and fundraising campaigns that build the RMHC Toronto brand, increase awareness of RMHC Toronto, and grow revenue across the organization. Daily, this role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts to drive key content and manage the day-to-day execution of marketing communication programs across multiple platforms and formats.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan, write and edit materials for all media directed at both internal and external audiences, consistent with RMHC Toronto’s mission, vision, and strategic direction. Materials may include newsletters, direct mail letters, publications, annual reports, news stories, email campaigns, videos, etc.
  • Create strong visual and graphics for digital and print initiatives.
  • Execute the social media strategy, including the social media content calendar, community management and reporting.
  • Monitor overall digital communications performance and ensure consistent and accurate reporting.
  • Work with the team to plan and execute digital marketing campaigns, including, email, social media, and digital advertising with the goal of raising brand awareness, increasing fundraising revenue, and stewarding donors & other stakeholders.
  • Support media relations including capturing media coverage, proactively pitching stories and leading filming logistics.
  • Coordinate and liaise with designers, reporters, producers, photographers/videographers, and other marketing, communications, and creative suppliers to facilitate timely delivery of marketing material for various campaigns, announcements, initiatives, and events.
  • Oversee, monitor, and revise website content to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate, ensuring content follows digital best practices including SEO optimization, accessibility, etc.
  • Deploy use of brand standards for communications (i.e., creation of email signatures, design of internal and external documents, etc.).
  • Provide a high level of general writing support for leadership team members including speeches, speaking notes, presentations, etc.
  • Support event planning coordination for anniversaries, donor receptions, volunteer appreciation events, and signature events (e.g., golf tournament), and third-party events by providing approved content and marketing collateral, logos, printed materials, etc.
  • Manage effective relationships with internal clients and external agencies, partners, donors, volunteers, media and families of RMHC Toronto.
  • Performs other duties, as required.


Education & Experience

  • College diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a communication and/or marketing role.
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Exceptional writer with a passion for storytelling
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • High proficiency in technology including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign), video production, and website content management software.
  • Strong knowledge with digital design projects including developing and deploying emails using CRM platforms.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent proofreading/copy editing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and clarify concerns and concepts to various audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Exemplary collaboration and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, as well as independently.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret trends and results. Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to be resourceful in defining solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the abilities to manage multiple deliverables in a time-sensitive environment and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to work professionally and compassionately with donors, volunteers and families served by RMHC Toronto.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as required.
