Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. RMHC Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.

We are looking for a Senior Development Officer to join our team in Toronto. 

The Role

Are you a passionate development professional with annual fundraising in health care or not-for-profit? Do you want to make a lasting difference in keeping families of seriously ill children together and close to their medical care to ease their stress?

We are hiring a Senior Development Officer (SDO) for annual and mid-level giving that brings firsthand experience in portfolio analysis, segmentation and donor stewardship excellence. The SDO is an integral part of the development team providing excellent donor experience while building a pipeline and expanded portfolio of 800-1000 individual and foundation donors.

Your development work will directly benefits more than 3,300 families annually in their greatest time of need. RMHC Toronto is expanding essential programs to serve more families better.

This role cultivates and maintains positive relationships with new and loyal donors with one-time gifts of $500 up to $20,000. You will develop, implement and manage strategic fundraising plans for donor segments to meet fundraising goals and increase revenue. You will create and deliver excellent stewardship communications that elevate engagement and show the impact of gifts. This position reports to the Director of Development.

The SDO will be expected to be available to meet donors in person, host donor tours and attend key events and engagements. Hybrid in nature, this role works a minimum of 2 days/week in the office with additional in-person time as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are a self-driven person who’s naturally inclined to foster authentic relationships with the ability to influence donors and lead mission-driven fundraising initiatives. To succeed in this role, you need previous experience working in fundraising capacity as follows:

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years progressive experience in fundraising, with a combination of annual fund knowledge and a track record of soliciting and closing donor gifts.
  • Experience working in healthcare charity or not-for-profit organization supporting children and families is an asset.
  • CFRE designation an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • In-depth knowledge of principles and techniques related to donor acquisition and retention, fundraising, annual fund campaigns, and monthly giving.
  • Proven ability to analyze and segment a portfolio creating tactics to elevate donor experience for each donor segment.
  • Mission-driven with demonstrated ability to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Proficient in MS Office and experience with CRM databases (Raisers Edge/RE NXT).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to influence, develop and maintain relationships.
  • Proven ability to build new and long-term relationships with prospects, donors and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate within a team
  • Understanding of Canada Revenue Agency tax receipting rules and guidelines and the ability to communicate them to donors.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the GTA, as required.
