Good News for Donors: Federal Government Extends Deadline for Charitable Donations

The federal government has extended the deadline for making charitable donations eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year.

New Deadline:
Individuals may claim the eligible amount of certain gifts made to charities and other qualified donees up to February 28, 2025, on their 2024 personal income tax return.

Important Details:

  • Some exceptions apply. For full details, please visit the Department of Finance website.
  • If you do not claim gifts made to charities and other qualified donees up to February 28, 2025, on your 2024 personal income tax return, you can still claim the amount on your 2025 return or carry forward the amount.

What This Means for RMHC Toronto Donors:
In March 2025, RMHC Toronto will issue you a consolidated tax receipt for gifts made in January and February 2025. This will allow you to decide how best to use your charitable donation.
