Scarborough-area McDonald’s Owner/Operator Terri Toms is retiring this month after 49 years with the McDonald’s Family.
Throughout her career, Terri Toms has been a committed supporter of RMHC Toronto and has made an incredible impact on our mission. We will miss working closely with Terri on initiatives such as McHappy Day, but we know she will always be a member of our family of supporters!
Terri began her career with McDonald’s as a crew member in a Morningside restaurant in 1972, and went on to work for the McDonald’s corporate office before becoming an Owner/Operator in 1992.
She opened her first two restaurants in the underground PATH in downtown Toronto, and then moved into the Scarborough market. Eventually, she even purchased the Morningside location where she first worked as a teenager.
Terri has always been very involved in the community, from her work supporting RMHC Toronto – which included helping to establish our two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at Scarborough Health Network, and volunteering on our Fundraising Committee for five years – to working with the Scarborough Health Network Foundation on the Board of Directors, and supporting causes like the Scarborough Store Front, the Scarborough Boys & Girls Literacy Program, and atoMc Hockey, to name a few.
When asked about her connection to RMHC Toronto, Terri said, “It’s just in my blood. I went to the opening of the very first House in 1981 and supporting RMHC Toronto has been an important part of my life ever since. It makes me proud to know that I am helping families with a seriously ill child through my commitment to RMHC Toronto.”
Terri is looking forward to her retirement and having some time to play golf, hopefully do some travelling in the near future, and spending time with family and friends. We wish Terri the very best in this next stage of her life and look forward to continuing to work together to keep families close when they need each other the most.
