We are proud to celebrate the exceptional contributions of our Front Desk Associate, Heidi Vlahantones, who was recently recognized with the prestigious Anita Price Award of Excellence.

This award, named after long-time RMHC Toronto leader Anita Price, honours team members who exemplify the values of compassion, teamwork, and resilience. Anita Price dedicated over 30 years of service to RMHC Toronto, starting as a front desk volunteer and eventually holding roles such as Chair of House Operations and Office Manager, a position she excelled in for 16 years before her retirement in 2018. Her legacy continues to inspire us through the individuals we honour with this award.

Heidi embodies the spirit of this award in everything she does. Known for her kindness and bright energy, she creates a welcoming space for everyone who steps into RMHC Toronto. As one of her peers beautifully put it, “Heidi is the sunshine on a rainy day! Whether working with families, children, youth, peers, or the community, she shines bright. Heidi is a genuine person who not only makes my day brighter with her singing, smiles, jokes, and sharing of snacks, but she’s a hard worker who puts her heart into everything she does.”

Building personal connections with families, children, peers, and volunteers, Heidi always goes out of her way to make others feel valued. “Heidi always goes out of her way to brighten everyone’s day. Heidi takes a genuine interest in people, remembering details about their lives, what they like, and what they have coming up. She is warm, encouraging, and makes people feel truly valued,” shared another colleague.

In addition to her compassion, Heidi’s commitment to teamwork truly shines. She’s always the first to offer help and lend a hand. As one peer noted, “Heidi is the first person to ask, ‘How can I help?’ no matter the task. She gets along with everyone, from the frontline team to volunteers and families. She brings people together and creates a welcoming environment for all.”

Heidi’s positive energy and resilience have elevated her role at the front desk. “Heidi brings positive energy to the work environment every day. She adapts to changes, provides a supportive atmosphere, and is proactive in taking on tasks that ease the stress of others. She’s the kind of person you want around during difficult times,” said one colleague.

I really love working at the House, and winning this award means I’m at the right place. My favorite thing about being at the House is getting to know the families and my amazing colleagues. – Heidi

Through her dedication, Heidi ensures that families, volunteers, and staff all feel seen, supported, and valued. Her compassion, teamwork, and resilience reflect the very essence of RMHC Toronto’s mission, and we are honoured to recognize her with this well-deserved award. Thank you, Heidi, for your incredible contributions to our community and for carrying forward Anita Price’s lasting legacy.
