Did you know that McHappy Day is our largest and most important fundraising day of the year?

Come celebrate McHappy Day with us on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, when a portion of the proceeds from ALL menu items sold all day long at McDonald’s restaurants will help families at RMHC Toronto.

RMHC Toronto School students are ready for McHappy Day, too!

Last November, RMHC Toronto School students came up with a list of popular fast-food restaurants, and voted on their favourite. The winner was McDonald’s – of course!

As a project, students built a menu and opened a fast-food restaurant in the classroom. Reading the McDonald’s menu in Toronto, they realized some of their favourite foods were not available. They began to research McDonald’s around the world, and discovered different continents have specialty food items. For example, in Asia, they serve spaghetti and taro ice cream; in Russia, they serve chicken wings and potato wedges; and in South America they serve empanadas.

Students then created a McDonald’s menu inclusive of their favourite foods and got to work creating the restaurant. They created food containers, a drive-thru, and practiced different roles within the restaurant. Roles explored included chef, manager, cashier, and barista.

When the day came for them to open the restaurant, each student enjoyed having a turn acting out the different jobs.

The exploration ended with a special surprise: McDonald’s for lunch on the last day of school before Winter Break. This is just one of the many creative ways our School staff engage students in learning. This exploration covered financial literacy, social studies and media literacy curriculum expectations.
