RMHC Toronto mom, Manjit, shares how monthly donors support her family.
Nothing is more terrifying than seeing your newborn baby sick. Shortly after our infant son Tristan was born, he started experiencing constant fevers.
He was diagnosed with a rare immune disease and needed a bone marrow transplant to save his life.
We left our home in Guelph, Ont. knowing we would need to spend many months living near the hospital in Toronto. At the hospital, only one parent is allowed bedside due to COVID-19. It’s lonely being at the hospital by myself, but I can’t imagine leaving Tristan. He needs me.
Meanwhile, my husband Chris is working remotely and taking care of our five-year-old daughter, Jasmine.
We needed somewhere to stay together as a family. We were grateful to have received a room at the House in February. Without RMHC Toronto, I don’t know how we would be getting through this. The financial savings are important, but because of your support, it is so much more than that.
The House is only a quick walk from the hospital, so I can eat a delicious, prepared meal together with Chris and Jasmine while I am away from Tristan. I’m so grateful that I can spend this time with my whole family – hearing about their day and reporting back on Tristan’s progress.
Monthly donors to RMHC Toronto make this possible.
When you join our Family Tree Monthly Giving Program, you are helping families – for however long they need you. Even as little as $15 each month can make a big difference.
Please consider becoming a monthly donor today, because I can tell you firsthand: it means everything.
Once Tristan is out of the hospital, he will still need to visit every day for doctors to monitor his post-transplant recovery. It will be vital that we remain close to the hospital for the next few weeks and we are so glad to be reunited together at the House during this stressful time.
I keep calling RMHC Toronto home, because it’s where we can forget about the hospital and our worries. We can just focus on making good memories and being together as a family. This is the gift you are giving my family, and I’m so grateful.
With my deepest gratitude,
Manjit
