RMHC Toronto alumni family is participating in Wear Your Stripes to fundraise for other families like theirs.
Seven-year-old Harper recently celebrated a major milestone. In July 2021, she reached two years of being cancer free.
For Harper’s parents, Sonja and Jonathan, it was a happy and surreal moment to be celebrating at home with their other daughters Elle, Charlotte, and Autumn.
In 2018, the family called RMHC Toronto home for seven months while Harper received life-saving treatment for a brain tumour.
Being separated as a family wasn’t an option. Calling RMHC Toronto our home meant everything to us.
– Sonja
During that time, the House was a special place for Sonja’s other daughters too.
“I was 36 weeks pregnant when we received the devastating news about Harper’s diagnosis. Harper’s baby sister Charlotte was born while staying at RMHC Toronto, so the House was her first home. Staying at RMHC Toronto allowed us to be together as a family even during this emotional time. The staff at the House also made my daughter, Elle, feel extra special. They were always giving her bubbles or stickers, which she loved.”
When Sonja and Jonathan heard about Wear Your Stripes, they knew this was a perfect opportunity to give back and help families like theirs. They set an impressive team goal of $2,500 and are well on their way to achieving it!
“The people closest to us are committed to doing everything they can for Harper. Jonathan and I want to turn Harper’s experience into something positive, so helping other families like ours is the best thing we can do to make a meaningful impact. That’s why we always say Harper’s Winning.”
RMHC Toronto is so grateful for the generosity and support from our alumni families like Sonja, Jonathan, Harper, Elle, Charlotte and Autumn!
