After their stay at RMHC Toronto in 2015, a family gives back to the House in a big way.

In 2015, Robin Martin received the news that her youngest son, Lucas, had been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. The family, who live in Northern Ontario, packed up to make the long trip to Toronto so Lucas could receive the life-saving care he needed. Thankfully, Robin and her other children were able to call RMHC Toronto home for four months during Lucas’ treatment.

Because of the kind and compassionate space they found at RMHC Toronto, the House has held a special place in their hearts ever since.

This past summer, Lucas and his siblings, as well as others throughout the South Porcupine and Timmins community, wanted to find a way to give back to RMHC Toronto.

They landed on hosting a lemonade stand outside the family’s home, and quickly found momentum in their thirst-quenching philanthropy. In a few short hours, with the help of their community and social media, the team raised $806.75 for families staying at RMHC Toronto.

“Putting together Lucas’s Lemonade Stand was just one small random act of kindness to give back to other families in need as we have never forgotten the kindness and compassion that Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto had offered us, in our family’s time of need,” says Robin.

We’re grateful that in September, Robin and Lucas, as well as some of his siblings, made the almost 11-hour trip to Toronto to hand deliver the lemonade stand proceeds. They made sure to say hello to old friends while they dropped off the funds they raised. And we can’t forget the beautiful, handmade card the kids created for the staff at RMHC Toronto to thank them for all they do at the House!

Our thanks go out Lucas, Robin and the rest of their family for choosing to give back to RMHC Toronto.
