As a volunteer, you are a key member of the RMHC Toronto team. To ensure we’re providing the best possible experience for our volunteers, we follow The Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement.

Are you a compassionate individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of families with seriously ill children? Join our team as a Family Room Volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Toronto, providing comfort and support to families during their time of need.

  • Welcome and assist families with diverse backgrounds and needs with compassion, creating a comforting space for them to rest and respite.
  • Help with light to moderate physical tasks, such as restocking items on shelves, organizing supplies, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the room to ensure smooth operations (comfortable lifting to 25 lbs.).
  • Follow hospital procedures and codes while delivering excellent customer service.

Note: This is a nonclinical space supporting caregivers and does not involve direct interaction with the child receiving medical care.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly shift of 3 hours for a minimum of six months. Available from 9 am to 9 pm (e.g. 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6pm, 6pm-9pm every day), you can select a shift that best aligns with your schedule from the vacancies. *Note that positions may not always be immediately available. Based on your preferences, you will be added to a waitlist, and we will reach out to you as soon as an opportunity becomes available.

Requirements:

  • Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older as per our policies.
  • Availability: Candidates must be able to commit to a regular weekly shift of 3 hours for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Health Screening and Onboarding: As per hospital requirements, volunteers will need to undergo a health screening, which is mandatory for all roles within the hospital.
  • Orientation and Training: Volunteers are required to attend an orientation and complete all necessary training modules before starting their shift.

  • Welcome and assist families with diverse backgrounds and needs with compassion, creating a comforting space for them to rest and respite.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to families, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with front desk operations, including answering phones, receiving packages, and signing in visitors.
  • Support the Family Services Team with House Tours, and replenishing items for families at the front desk and family den.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly shift of 3 hours for a minimum of six months. RMHC Toronto does offer student placements, but not through Volunteer Engagement. For more information about student placements, send your information to info@rmhctoronto.ca. Please indicate in the subject line what your email pertains to.

We would never think of placing you in a role without training! We provide orientation and training for all our volunteers regardless of the position they apply to.

Our goal is to have you volunteering within three weeks from the time you first apply. However, this also depends whether we have positions available that suit your application.

You must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the House or in our Family Rooms.
